Eastpointe Community Schools has reached a turning point. Appointed to the board in February 2025, I've played an active role in supporting the stabilization of our storied district. Despite past challenges, ECS has updated our curriculum, increased student activities outside of the classroom, and renovated buildings across the district to improve the learning environment. I'm running for a full term to continue serving as a Board of Education Trustee, because Strong Schools are part of a Strong Community.
-Improve Student Board Representative work on and off the dais, including developing a list of student priorities
-Support Administration's work for increased student leadership across all ECS campuses
-Ensure student participation on key district initiatives, including (but not limited to) crafting the district's AI Policy
-Push state leadership to never raid the School Aid Fund for non-K-12 funding priorities, including higher education
-Push federal leadership to provide full funding for critical programs, including (but not limited to) IDEA
-Ensure both of the aforementioned levels of government provide equitable funding for districts that serve students with additional needs and service requirements
-Support and share appreciation for budgets that are delivered on time, and support the aforementioned goals at the state and federal level
-Support student leadership and development through active student council and honor societies
-Encourage career development and exploration through CTE-related clubs and competitions
-Expand cultural immersion opportunities through local and out-of-state trips, study abroad opportunities, and exchange student programs
-Maintain a healthy fund balance through responsible stewardship of district resources, including cost-saving and revenue-generating opportunities
-Ensure competitive employee compensation and benefits to retain a qualified team of top-notch educational leaders, including the Grow Your Own Program
-Explore new funding avenues, including (but not limited to) starting an Eastpointe Community Schools Educational Leadership Foundation
-Evaluate and update the Board's Policies and Procedures
-Evaluate and update the Board's Onboarding Materials
-Allocate funding for continued board training and development, including (but not limited to) MASB institutes, as well as similar opportunities at the state and national level
-Maintain our current student population through continuous improvement across the district
-Develop and amplify the great work happening in ECS to increase community awareness and pride
-Cultivate partnership with the City of Eastpointe and similar local businesses and organizations to deepen our roots in the Gateway to Macomb County
-Through the aforementioned efforts, attract students located in Eastpointe back to our district, allowing ECS to increase educational and extracurricular opportunities
-Three candidates are running to support this work and the continued improvement of ECS:
-Addie Richardson
-Ian Colin McCain
-Robert Puller
-Through the community's support, we promise to be a breathe of fresh AIR towards the continued growth and development of Eastpointe Community Schools!
-Researched and developed governance strategies and recommendations alongside my fellow board members, especially around Student Board Representation, ECS State Budget Needs, AI Policy, and CTE Programs
-Completed extensive training through the Michigan Association of Schools Boards (MASB), including (but not limited to) achieving the Certified Board Member, Award of Merit, and Data Certification in my first year on the board; I will likely achieve additional awards and certifications by the end of 2026
